Для перерасчета (конвертации) из МЕ (IU) в мг/мкг и обратно, доступны следующие субстанции:
МЕ (международная единица) — в фармакологии это единица измерения количества вещества, основанная на биологической активности. Используется для витаминов, гормонов, некоторых лекарств, вакцин, составляющих крови и подобных биологически активных веществ. Несмотря на название, МЕ не является частью международной системы измерения СИ.
Точное определение одной МЕ различается для различных веществ и установлено международным соглашением. Комитет биологической стандартизации при Всемирной организации здравоохранения предоставляет эталонные заготовки определенных веществ, (произвольно) устанавливает количество единиц МЕ содержащихся в них, и определяет биологические процедуры для сравнения других заготовок с эталонными. Целью таких процедур является то, чтобы различные заготовки, имеющие одинаковую биологическую активность, содержали равное количество единиц МЕ.
Для некоторых веществ со временем были установлены массовые эквиваленты одной МЕ, и от измерения в этих единицах официально отказались. Однако, единица МЕ всё же может оставаться в широком применении из-за удобства. К примеру, витамин E существует в восьми различных формах, отличающихся своей биологической активностью. Вместо точного указания типа и массы витамина в заготовке, иногда удобно просто указать его количество в МЕ.
МЕ (международная единица) — согласованные на международном уровне стандарты, необходимые для сравнения содержания различных испытуемых биологических соединений на основании их активности.
Если не возможно очистить химическими методами, то субстанция анализируется биологическими методами, для сравнения используют стабильный стандартный раствор. Стандарты сывороток хранятся в Государственном институте сывороток (Копенгаген), Национальном институте медицинских исследований (Милл Хилл, Великобритания) и ВОЗ.
Международная единица определяется как определенное количество стандартного раствора (например, одна МЕ антитоксина столбняка = 0,1547 мг стандартного раствора, который хранится в Копенгагене).
Для того, чтобы пересчитать количество субстанции (активного ингредиента препарата), выполните следующую последовательность действий:
Если Вы ввели, например, 1 000 000 МЕ и переводите в мг, а результат получился 0.00 мг, то просто увеличте точность, например, до 6-7 знаков после запятой или переключитесь на мкг. Некоторые субстанции имеют весьма маленькие коэффициенты пересчета в одном из направлений, поэтому получаемые значения результатов тоже весьма малы.

Пересчет активности IU (ME) в единицы измерения СИ
Здравствуйте, время от времени мне нужно пересчитывать активное ДВ (выраженное в IU) на «неактивную» субстанцию (выраженную в системе СИ) и обратно.
Ну, типо, рассчитать какому количеству килограммов будет соответствовать 980 BOU Неомицина сульфата с активностью 678 IU/mg и влажностью 6,5%.
Насколько я понимаю, у разных субстанций за 1 IU принято разное количество мкг АДВ.
Подскажите, пожалуйста, где можно найти справочные данные по этому вопросу, может есть какая-нибудь таблица пересчета?
В стандартном образце USP указана активность гепарина натрия. Дословно написано «For quntitative application, use a value of 2144 USP heparine units per ampul. Вопрос- как соотносится активность гепарина натрия в единицах USP (2144 USP heparine units) к единицам МЕ(IU)? или это одно и то же.
В большинстве случаев 1 U USP = 1 IU. Если это тождество не соблюдается, то об этом указывают отдельно. Если на этикетке стандарта указано отдельное значение, то соответственно следует использовать его.
В старой USP было написано так:
Units of biological potency defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) for International Biological Standards and International Biological Reference Preparations are termed International Units (IU). Units defined by USP Reference Standards are USP Units, and the individual monographs refer to these. Unless otherwise indicated, USP Units are equivalent to the corresponding International Units, where such exist. Such equivalence is usually established on the basis solely of the compendial assay for the substance.

For the last 30 years or more, there has been a 7 – 13% disparity between the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) unit and the International Unit (IU) for unfractionated heparin. It was therefore desirable to harmonize these two units for the measurement of heparin. The harmonization of the USP unit with the International Unit, however, caused more waves than anticipated. The FDA was concerned that this change in potency may have some clinical significance and a safety note was published on their website. A recent study in animals has also been published to show that this change in potency would probably have little impact on the safety and efficacy of unfractionated heparin in the US. It should be noted that in Europe unfractionated heparin products have always been labelled with IU and therefore, since 1973, European patients have been receiving “approximately 10%” less heparin than patients in the US, yet there have not been reports of “under dosage” in Europe.

International Standards and Reference Reagents 1990
Tabulates key information on the availability and specifications of international biological standards and international biological reference reagents. These standards and reference reagents are established to provide a means of ensuring uniformity throughout the world in the designation of the potency, activity, or specificity of preparations that are used in the prophylaxis, therapy, or diagnosis of human and some animal diseases, and that cannot be expressed directly in terms of chemical and physical quantities.
The first part of the book provides an updated list of standards for allergens, antibiotics, antibodies, antigens, blood products and related substances, cytokines, endocrinological and related substances, and a miscellaneous group of substances. For each group of substances, standard preparations are listed in alphabetical order under the name and address of the laboratory that holds and distributes the substances. Each is identified by name and then characterized in terms of its biological activity, expressed as the total number of international units per ampoule; a weight definition of the unit, where necessary; the form in which the substance is available from the laboratory; the year of establishment of the standard; and pertinent references.
The second part presents similar information for international biological reference reagents, which are established mainly for the purpose of providing reference materials of high specificity for the identification of microorganisms or their products as well as for the identification of other biological substances of interest in the diagnosis of diseases. A concluding section gives the name and package size for International Chemical Reference Substances available in 1991.
